Inspiring and supporting young people seriously injured through sport

PAUL ALLEN

We were made aware of Paul a former professional footballer from Alex Bennett a friend of Matt's who's was spinally injured playing rugby a few years ago. He felt Paul could benefit from more regular physio sessions, once speaking to Paul we were only to happy to help out and fund these sessions for him. Paul contracted Transverse Myelitis in Dec 2011 and spent the next year in hospital, mainly at the spinal rehabilitation unit at Southport Hospital. On returning home in 2013 he contacted Matt Hampson to learn about the Foundation and to see whether we could help him in any way. He had found a Neuro Physiotherapy centre in Manchester who had experience in his condition and said they could help him. The Foundation agreed to some funding for Paul to attend some physio sessions. They have proved invaluable in helping him understand his condition and learn new ways to stretch and exercise his body.

Paul believes 'The benefits have been amazing with lots of pain relief and the stiffness is now more manageable. Without Matt's and the Foundation's help I would not have been able to afford this treatment and my quality of life wouldn't have improved as it has.

A massive thank you from me and all my family for everyone involved in the Foundation and its many fundraisers who help raise money for people like me'
