Inspiring and supporting young people seriously injured through sport

ROBBIE EVANS

My name is Rob, Growing up I played lots of different sports, so when I became paralysed in 2006, the thought of not being able to play sports again was really difficult for me to come to terms with. From playing sports every week, I didn't take part in any for quite a few years. This was a difficult time for me. But once I had accepted my disability and was ready to move on in life, I started playing wheelchair tennis at my local sports centre.

I really enjoyed being able to play a sport again but struggled with the equipment I had to use there because of my level of injury. I knew if I was going to get any better I would need a wheelchair that was suitable and specifically made to help support me. I was told by my tennis coach to contact the Dan Maskell Trust and apply for a chair, so I filled an application form out and they awarded me with a new tennis chair, which was brilliant news, but I still had to contribute to the cost of it.

Unfortunately I wasn't able to raise the funds so I was a bit stuck! That's when I contacted The Matt Hampson Foundation and explained to them my situation. Everyone there was really positive towards me getting involved in sports again, and they made sure that I got the chair as soon as possible.

The Matt Hampson Foundation is a brilliant charity that gives people who have had a spinal injury a brighter future. By supporting me to get back into sports, they have given me something positive to focus on and look forward to in my life.
