Inspiring and supporting young people seriously injured through sport

Fan Dance Winter Race Series

My name is Stewart Eaton, I am 35 years old and I work for Castel Underwriting Agencies in the City of London. I am a massive sports fan. I have decided to take part in the Fan Dance Winter Race Series on 10th January 2015 to see if I can push myself to the height of my physical and mental limits.

The event is a gruelling 24km non-navigational race over two sides of Pen Y Fan, the highest mountain in the Brecon Beacons, with a total climb of over 5500ft. This infamous route has long been a part of SAS and SBS Selection and is considered the yardstick of a candidate's potential to perform well on Test Week and ultimately pass the Special Forces Selection programme. I will be carrying what is likely to be close to 45lbs on my back including all water, supplies and emergency kit. Special Forces are required to complete the course in under 4hrs 15mins in winter (albeit with a slightly heavier Bergen).

With no military background and no history of endurance events my goals are simple – survival, completion, and to raise money and awareness for a fantastic charity.

I have decided to support the Matt Hampson Foundation because I am in awe of what Matt has achieved and the level of support that has been provided, through the Foundations work, to those who are beneficiaries of this great cause. I will suffer during this event but it will be short lived. The people I am raising money for have been through immeasurable suffering, but have battled formidably to get through their difficulties and have subsequently become an inspiration to me, all those with whom they engage, and many more besides.

It will be my pleasure and privilege to raise awareness and as much money as I can for the Matt Hampson Foundation.
