Inspiring and supporting young people seriously injured through sport

The RPA to honour Hambo with Blyth Spirit Award

The Rugby Players Association has announced that Matt Hampson will receive the Blyth Spirit Award, in association with Towergate insurance, at the 2015 RPA Players’ Awards.

Held in the venue of the Foundation’s Six Nations Dinner, Battersea Evolution, the event takes place on Wednesday 13th May.

This year marks 10 years since Matt had his accident. The RPA Blyth Spirit Award will be presented to Matt in recognition of his incredible courage since his accident and in establishing the Matt Hampson Foundation, supporting and inspiring young people seriously injured through sport.

RPA Group CEO, Damian Hopley, said: “ Matt is a true inspiration to all of us and the determination he has shown since his accident has been nothing short of incredible. The fact that he has now focused his energy into his Foundation and helping others who have suffered similar injuries to himself is testament to his remarkable character and why he is so deserving of this award.”

The RPA Blyth Spirit Award is given to an individual who has shown remarkable courage in the face of adversity, and is voted for by the RPA Players’ Board.

Matt said “I’m extremely humbled to be the recipient of this award. Ever since my injury, the support I have received from the RPA and Restart Rugby has made a huge difference to my life. It’s great to be part of an event that raises such valuable funds for Restart Rugby and all the players the charity helps.”
