Brother of our Beneficiary Herve Makes his Debut for France Under 20 Rugby

Herve Irakunda a longstanding Beneficiary who we have supported ever since his accident in 2010 in South Africa when we helped fund his emergency flight to France to be reunited with his family who had been repatriated there.

Herve was knocked over by a car whilst playing rugby in the street in Cape Town, read his story here https://www.matthampsonfoundation.org/beneficiaries/herve-iradukunda/

His family have made a new life in France and we were delighted to be contacted by Herve's younger brother William the other day to tell us he was due to make his debut for the French under 20 rugby side.

Foundation CEO Tommy Cawston commented, "we have got to know Willy over the years and knew he was a good rugby player, to get the message the other day that he was to start for France Under 20's was amazing news. Willy has had to overcome a lot obviously the life changing accident to his brother Herve but also moving to a new country in his teens and all the challenges that entails. I have massive admiration for him and hope this is the start of an exciting rugby career. We will certainly be keeping a keen eye on the name Willy Iraguha!

Willy met up with Foundation Commercial Director Louis Deacon who is one of the England U20 coaches after the game at Sandy Park at the start of this year's six nations. Louis and Willy and pictured above.
