The Pop UP Gym is a facility created by Drew Graham on his return to the UK after suffering a spinal cord injury diving into a sand bank in open water in America where he was working as an athletics coach.
Drew undertook much of his rehabilitation after his accident in amazing facilities in the states and was dismayed to find a complete lack of facilities on his return to his native North East.
Drew took It upon himself to come up with the concept for the Pop Up Gym to provide a rehabilitation and fitness maintenance service for people who have spinal cord injuries that rather than having one location, travels all around the North.
From this idea came the facility on the banks of the Tyne which opened in January. Foundation CEO Tommy Cawston visited the centre last week. “It was fantastic to visit the Pop Up Gym and catch up with Drew. To see the place full of guys training and interacting was what it’s all about. Matt and I have been passionate about supporting Drew with this concept as we were both blown away by his drive to make a difference for other people who find themselves in a similar position. He deserves a huge amount of credit for being the driving force behind this idea and it’s testament to him that the gym is already full each day of like minded individuals all eager to work hard at their rehabilitation. It really was an inspiring couple of hour and we are very proud of the small part we have played in making this place a reality”
